Nan grew up in Great River, NY, the same area where her parents were born and raised. Great River is a small town on the south shore of Long Island with the Fire Island Lighthouse within view. Nan and her sister grew up on the Great South Bay fishing, digging for clams, enjoying the beach and waterskiing.

During high school Nan worked at her parents hardware store doing everything from cutting keys, pipe and glass to splicing nylon boating lines, sharpening ice skates and fixing screen doors. The family headed to Florida in 1978 where the Jupiter Lighthouse grabbed their hearts. Nan’s mom and dad bought a donut shop where the family worked together making donuts and serving coffee. From there, she worked office jobs that included such tasks as answering phones and typing wills and real estate contracts.

Nan found the quilt shop known as Nan’s Quilter’s Cottage on her lunch hour and learned how to quilt in the late 1980’s. Vivian worked for Nan and when Nan wanted to retire Viv opened Quilters’ Choice. At first, she was a customer, student and newsletter helper who came in every day. Then one day, Viv asked Nan if she wanted to work in the shop. You know the answer to that one. Nan has been here ever since. She especially enjoys introducing and teaching new students to the wonderful world of quilting and sewing. Nan is an expert in the world of BERNINA sewing machines. Her favorite part of being at the shop is interacting with the customers!
